Summary

Will Darling is all right。 His business is doing well, and so is his illicit relationship with Kim Secretan--disgraced aristocrat, ex-spy, amateur book-dealer。 It’s starting to feel like he’s got his life under control。

And then a brutal murder in a gentleman’s club plunges them back into the shadow world of crime, deception, and the power of privilege。 Worse, it brings them up against Kim’s noble, hostile family, and his upper-class life where Will can never belong。

With old and new enemies against them, and secrets on every side, Will and Kim have to fight for each other harder than ever—or be torn apart for good。

Seriously fantastic。 I can always count on KJ Charles to deliver a spectacular read with engaging characters, a plot that just sucks me in, amazing lines, and heart-wrenching love declarations。 The only disappointing thing about this book is that it’s the last one, leaving me once more in mourning until her next book is out。

4。5 Stars。 I really enjoyed this book and the resolution for these characters。 There was so much growth in both these characters and their relationship。 This one had adventure, mystery and more feelings than the past two which I really liked。 I couldn't have thought of a better ending for these two。 4。5 Stars。 I really enjoyed this book and the resolution for these characters。 There was so much growth in both these characters and their relationship。 This one had adventure, mystery and more feelings than the past two which I really liked。 I couldn't have thought of a better ending for these two。 。。。more

KJ Charles knocked it out of the park again。 Absolutely adore everyone and will miss them dreadfully。 Hoping that inspiration will hit and we'll get a few more volumes。。。 Maybe about Maisie and Phoebe in Paris? This book wraps everything up very negating and quite enjoyably。 KJ Charles knocked it out of the park again。 Absolutely adore everyone and will miss them dreadfully。 Hoping that inspiration will hit and we'll get a few more volumes。。。 Maybe about Maisie and Phoebe in Paris? This book wraps everything up very negating and quite enjoyably。 。。。more

Look, this was absolutely dashing good fun, and yet the seams showed just slightly more than I am accustomed to with Charles。 Lord, what a silly complaint! This whole series is a delight and I gulped the lot down in two days and feel all the better for it。

A fantastic ending, and a very Will and Kim one, with kidnapping, gunshots, ice pick murders, knifings, and all the cloak and dagger one might expect。 Never a dull moment。

I like these characters but the plot didn't interest me much。 Best part was the relationship between Will and Kim。 I don't suppose there'll be more, but I'd love to see them both working for the Private Service。 I like these characters but the plot didn't interest me much。 Best part was the relationship between Will and Kim。 I don't suppose there'll be more, but I'd love to see them both working for the Private Service。 。。。more

Look, I am alone in having a like/hate relationship with KJ Charles books (it feels a bit like we're on two parallel roads, and occasionally we bump into each other but a lot of the time we're driving past each other when it comes to what we want from a book/characters, which is FINE, not everything is for everyone), but I read this because I wanted to see how the series was concluded。 There was less lying in this one, which I appreciated, and consequently think it's probably the one I liked mos Look, I am alone in having a like/hate relationship with KJ Charles books (it feels a bit like we're on two parallel roads, and occasionally we bump into each other but a lot of the time we're driving past each other when it comes to what we want from a book/characters, which is FINE, not everything is for everyone), but I read this because I wanted to see how the series was concluded。 There was less lying in this one, which I appreciated, and consequently think it's probably the one I liked most out of the trilogy。 。。。more

I read this a couple of weeks ago when it was released, and loved it。 It was a very satisfying conclusion to the series, although I want to see more of the guys, somehow。I have been on a KJ Charles binge, to try and fix a reading slump, and reread the three books in the series back to back。 This book was great to read on its own, and improved in the reread。

Charlotte

Absolutely beautiful。 And such wonderful representation of bisexuality (along side homosexuality)

coslyons

A very good ending, although i can see how it took KJ Charles several false starts during the writing process to get there

I am so sad。。。So sad that this series has ended, that it。 Will and Kim's adventures have been edge-of-my-seat enjoyment from start to finish。 After the rocky road their relationship travelled in the first two books, finally they put aside the lies and defensiveness to work together in Subtle Blood。And what a team they make。Old adversaries from Zodiac once more rear their ugly heads and it will take all their wits and determination to defeat them。 I loved that Phoebe and Maisie returned to the fr I am so sad。。。So sad that this series has ended, that it。 Will and Kim's adventures have been edge-of-my-seat enjoyment from start to finish。 After the rocky road their relationship travelled in the first two books, finally they put aside the lies and defensiveness to work together in Subtle Blood。And what a team they make。Old adversaries from Zodiac once more rear their ugly heads and it will take all their wits and determination to defeat them。 I loved that Phoebe and Maisie returned to the fray to help the boys out, and hope they will one day get their own story。 If you only read one historical mystery series this year, make it this one。 Simply the best。 。。。more

This was the perfect conclusion to a thrilling series。 If you've not read this series yet, I highly recommend it。 It has everything: mystery, wit and romance, and a fantastic set of characters。 I raced through this in practically a day, though I did have to put it down for a while because I was just so angry at a character's poor decision-making。 (The choice was so in character, but I was so furious at him for making that choice that I just couldn't。) The plot hares through several twists and tu This was the perfect conclusion to a thrilling series。 If you've not read this series yet, I highly recommend it。 It has everything: mystery, wit and romance, and a fantastic set of characters。 I raced through this in practically a day, though I did have to put it down for a while because I was just so angry at a character's poor decision-making。 (The choice was so in character, but I was so furious at him for making that choice that I just couldn't。) The plot hares through several twists and turns and just when you think you have a person figured, you get the rug pulled from under you。 KJC excels at twisty, plotty writing interlaced with human character development and this is what you get here。 Perfection。Will and Kim continue to be delights。 It's so refreshing to see Kim actually trying to do better than he has in previous books, particularly where Will is concerned。 It's also refreshing to see that the major hurdles in their relationship are mostly down to Will。 I love Will, I really do, but there were several points in the book where I wanted to give him a good shake。 Phoebe and Maisie are perfect though and should never change。 I would read an entire trilogy about them just being them。 I don't need a plot。 They can just have cocktails and go dancing。 That's fine。 I'd read that。 。。。more

Very satisfying, and twisty, conclusion to the trilogy。 Will and Kim figure out what they mean to each other, while also trying to solve a murder, save (possibly strangle) Kim's brother, and dodge the remnants of Zodiac。Nice to see DS again, (view spoiler)[pity Archie didn't put in an appearance, too (hide spoiler)], though, of course, the cavalry missed the climactic fight。 Note: that is not a spoiler; that is a common feature of this sort of pulpy adventure。 Very satisfying, and twisty, conclusion to the trilogy。 Will and Kim figure out what they mean to each other, while also trying to solve a murder, save (possibly strangle) Kim's brother, and dodge the remnants of Zodiac。Nice to see DS again, (view spoiler)[pity Archie didn't put in an appearance, too (hide spoiler)], though, of course, the cavalry missed the climactic fight。 Note: that is not a spoiler; that is a common feature of this sort of pulpy adventure。 。。。more

It's the 1920s, and there are secret societies bent on evil and flapper societies and the creaking of an old society starting to come apart at its aristocratic roots, and there are also two men with their own demons and the laws against homosexuality between themselves and their happiness。 But with some personal growth and a willinging to be ruthless in the pursuit of said evil society, they will muddle through! Yes we all know KJ Charles is an excellent writer but lemme stress on how great she is at crafting such multi-dimensional characters with so much complexity and nuance, which is a feat sorely lacking as far as the average romance books go。 The dynamics between Will and Kim are very well explored and developed; their personalities compliment one another so well you truly believe they’re soulmates。 I also laughed out loud multiple times reading this book, which doesn’t happen too often usually wit Yes we all know KJ Charles is an excellent writer but lemme stress on how great she is at crafting such multi-dimensional characters with so much complexity and nuance, which is a feat sorely lacking as far as the average romance books go。 The dynamics between Will and Kim are very well explored and developed; their personalities compliment one another so well you truly believe they’re soulmates。 I also laughed out loud multiple times reading this book, which doesn’t happen too often usually with other romance books I read lemme tell you。 Love this author’s humour。 。。。more

A new Lord Peter WimseyAn excellent instalment in this series, I do feel with this book I am reminded of Dorothy Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey books, which are in my opinion one of the best 1930s crime books, and if updated to the 21st century would be this。(must be read in order)
